Outside Specification Sales Associate

What We Are Looking For:

Spectrum Lighting, Inc. – Austin is seeking an Austin-based Outside Specification Sales Associate.

This Specification Sales Representative will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with our local specifiers (architects, interior designers, and/or engineers) while evaluating our specifiers’ needs in the field and providing lighting solutions to project requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of commercial architecture, the lighting industry, and design processes, along with the ability to learn and communicate technical product information. This individual will be self-motivated and well-spoken, and goal oriented while working independently.

This role is built for someone who is proactive with client sales calls while assessing the specifier’s needs to ensure long-term relationships. This position is based in Austin, TX with regular local travel and occasional travel outside the region for Manufacturer factory visits and training.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Build connections and collaborate with local specifiers (architects, interior designers, and/or engineers)
  • Understand the lighting industry, our manufacturers’ products, and lighting market trends.
  • Use lighting software to perform lighting calculations.
  • Lead the introduction of new products to specifiers by delivering confident, well-informed presentations that clearly communicate key features and benefits of our manufacturer’s products.

 

Qualifications:

While a background in lighting sales is preferred, it is not required.

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (architecture, design, engineering) or equivalent relevant experience in design, construction, or specification sales:
    • Equivalent experience may include roles such as architect, lighting designer, commercial interior designer, regional sales manager for a lighting manufacturer, or specification sales agent.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Clear communicator with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
